We build decks and covered porches for homeowners around St. Joseph and out through the Kansas City metro, both new and as a rebuild for a deck that's gone gray and soft. Some jobs are a simple ground-level deck off a back door. Others are elevated, with a long stair run down to the yard, or a covered porch on the front of the house with a roof, posts, and railings.

What a deck or porch costs

Size is the biggest factor. A small landing off a back door is a different job than a wraparound deck or a full covered porch with a roof. Height matters too: anything elevated needs a real stair run, taller posts, and railings built to hold weight safely, which adds time and material over a ground-level deck.

A covered porch costs more than an open deck because it's a roof structure as much as a deck, with posts, rafters or trusses, and roofing tied into the house. Ground conditions play in as well. Sloped yards, soft soil, or a spot that's hard to get equipment to for the footings all change the price. Replacing an old deck can go either way: sometimes the existing footings and framing are sound and we build new decking on top of them, and sometimes the whole thing has to come out and start over.

Can you build a covered porch, not just an open deck?

Yes. We build covered porches with their own roof structure and posts, tied into the house, along with plain open decks. Tell us which you're after and we'll price it that way.

My deck is old and wobbly. Can it be fixed or does it need to be replaced?

Depends on the framing underneath. If the footings and structure are sound, we can rebuild the decking and railings on top of them. If the frame itself has failed, a full rebuild is the more honest answer, and we'll tell you which one your deck needs.

Do you build the stairs too?

Yes, stairs are part of the same job on any elevated deck, built with stringers and railings sized for the height and the weight they'll carry.

What do you need from me before you can quote it?

A rough idea of size and where it'll sit on the house, plus photos of the spot if you have them. A site visit fills in the rest, like grade and how it'll tie into the house.

Can you match a porch roof to my house's existing roof?

We'll match it as closely as the site allows, in roof style and roofing material. Ask about it when you call and we'll talk through what's realistic for your house.

Do you do deck work on sloped or wooded lots?
